“Casey Councillors have chosen to speak up on issues such as the State Government’s lack of action on graffiti along the Monash and lack of road upgrades. Now, someone at Casey has made a $2204.50 error, which was quickly corrected, and the payback comes,” Ms Peulich said.
Ms Peulich said the Government seemed to be trumping up charges and positioning itself to suspend or sack the Council – a hallmark of the Andrews Labor Government.
In just 19 months they have sacked the CFA Board, Geelong City Council, Water Boards, Ambulance Board, and others. They have had to replace 11 CEOs.
“It seems that if you are critical of the Daniel Andrews government, a Government that is obsessed with power and control for its own political interests, then you get sacked or suspended.
Ms Peulich said Casey Council had been stable and without controversy for the first time in years.
“Who could forget previous Labor dominated Councils when Labor Crs Rob Wilson & Brian Oates got into a war with witches, Labor Cr Wilson’s oval lights and t-shirt controversies, Labor Cr Kevin Bradford improperly disclosing confidential council tender information to a rival bidder, or Labor Councillors jetting all over the world. Yet there were no sackings or Monitors there.
“Other trouble plagued Councils are left alone because they have Labor Mayors.
“However, a stable Casey Council makes a $2204.50 error, and suddenly it needs investigation? It is clearly a situation when the government is manufacturing a controversy to hand the Council back to the bad old days under Labor,” Ms Peulich said.
A Monitor has been appointed by Minister Hutchins to review Council’s performance between today and August 16 at a cost of $1200 per day plus expenses.
