The leader of The Greens, Samantha Ratnam pledged her party’s support for amending the Charities Amendment Bill.
The Secretary for Treasury and Finance and Labor MP for the Eastern Victoria region, Daniel Mulino said that Daniel Andrews had concerns about the legislation, but that there are ideas that deserve consideration.
Liberal MP Inga Peulich, Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs told the Victorian Upper House that the motion was an attack on the financial viability of religious schools, hospitals, community and service organisations that deliver key services to Victorians.
The Victorian Liberals/ National Parties have consistently defended religious freedom and religious institutions, which have serious cause for concern if a minority Labor Government reliant on the Greens and the Sex Party were elected in Victoria at the next state election.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Inga Peulich MLC:
“Labor’s failure to vote down Ms. Patten’s motion is evidence that religious institutions could be thrown under the bus in Victoria if Daniel Andrews needs the Greens and left wing minor parties to form government.”
