In fronting the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee, Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship the Honourable Robert Scott, conceded that the $25million Social Cohesion and Resilience Fund has only seen the establishment of a Ministerial Sub Committee or Task Force.
Minister failed to explain the composition of the Task Force outside his Ministerial colleagues, or direction of the Taskforce.
He had no plans or timeframes for implementation of initiatives and did not know what actions are being considered.
Quotes attributable to Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Inga Peulich:
“Daniel Andrews is all talk on combating violent extremism and racial discrimination in our community.
“It is incredibly disappointing that $25million of special funding to combat violent extremism, racism and bigotry, with a focus on addressing anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, may not see any delivery of on the ground programs any time soon.
“To date the Andrews Labor Government has only managed to put together a Ministerial Sub Committee or Task Force and the Minister for Multicultural Affairs clearly has no idea of what this Task Force will do.
“Labor has been caught dragging its heels on such an important issue that will take months to see sound on ground response.”
