Sidelining our unifying national symbols and identity and giving less emphasis to those values which bind us will not make us a more cohesive, multicultural society.
Labor’s recently released Multicultural Values Statement does not contain a single reference to Australia or Australians. https://proud.vic.gov.au/victorian-values-statement
The recent Premier’s Gala Dinner, jointly organised by the Department of Premier and Cabinet and the recently restructured Victoria Multicultural Affairs Commission, focused on proud multicultural stories and journeys of migrants. Not one mention of Australia was made despite being the destination and place Australians from multicultural backgrounds call home.
In Labor’s new multicultural lexicon, “Victoria and Proud of it” has strategically replaced any reference to the word Australia.
For the first time in the history of the Premier’s Gala Dinner, no national anthem was played.
Quotes from Inga Peulich, Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship
”Daniel Andrews and Victorian Labor are failing the test of leadership by cleansing references to our national identity and silencing our national anthem.”
”Labor’s attempts to re-write Australia’s history and national identity is playing dangerous politics with our proud history as a cohesive, multicultural society.”
