Ms Peulich suspects that there has been an increase in the use of local creeks and waterways as de facto drains and is calling on the Environmental Protection Authority to investigate.
“More needs to be done to clean-up outflows and inland waterways including the Mordialloc Creek which are being used as de facto drains,” Ms Peulich said.
“The Andrew Government has done little to preserve these natural assets and we are now seeing our local beaches rendered unusable.”
Other contributing factors including discarded dog droppings, broken sewerage and drainage pipes could be among the causes, and swimmers have been warned to avoid Mordialloc Creek and nearby stormwater outlets after heavy rain.
